Anglia forestry team strengthened

Tim Frost of Tilhill Forestry

(Tilhill Forestry, East Anglia, February 2018) – Tim Frost, 35, from Diss, has joined Tilhill Forestry’s Anglia team as a Senior Forest Manager in order to continue growing the company’s customer base in the region.

Tim graduated from Aberystwyth University with a BSc (Hons) in Countryside Management in 2003. He has experience of working in both the private, public and charity sectors and describes himself as a business-focused countryside, land and recreation manager with experience in ecological restoration, rural estate management, visitor attraction operations and contract management. He has managed land for forestry, nature conservation, recreation, habitat restoration, military training and agriculture and is experienced in rural site operations, contract management and leading teams.

Most recently he managed the operation of High Lodge, a Forestry Commission Visitor Centre in Thetford Forest set in 2500ha of mixed Broadleaf, Corsican and Scots Pine. Previously to that he worked for Borders Forest Trust, establishing new woodlands in the Scottish Borders and managing existing forests for a number of clients.

Upon hearing of his successful appointment he said: “It’s a new role and presents an exciting challenge. There is huge scope for bringing more woodland into management including new woodland creation. There are many woodlands currently not under any management programme and therefore not bringing value to their owners. Tilhill Forestry can manage these properties in order to realise a currently untapped income stream. I am really looking forward to working as part of the Tilhill team and for a company with such a brilliant ethos and outlook.

“The Anglian region is a lovely landscape but different from other areas of the UK as it’s so flat. As with all areas, there are challenges to contend with but a good understanding of geology, soils, climate as well as the objectives for each particular site informs you as to how a woodland can be managed and what species will do well.”

Tim will also be helping to raise awareness of the grants available for woodland management enabling land owners to further maximise the value of their land.

He added: “I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for the countryside. I have worked on a variety of habitats including nationally and internationally designated sites, with particular experience in native and broadleaf woodlands and forestry practices.”

In his spare time Tim is an enthusiastic wildlife recorder, specialising in birds, moths and bees, as well as a keen geocacher.
